Dual-deployment barometric model rocket flight computer with integrated USB

The AIM USB is a dual-deployment altimeter providing flight recording and recovery in one, used in model rocketry. No data kit is required - just connect directly with USB.

The AIM USB is a dual-deployment altimeter: it records your full flight profile and fires both drogue and main recovery charges, all in a compact package that connects directly to a PC over USB.

Its firmware is fully user-upgradable, so your unit can always run the latest version. Free custom software lets you download data, view flights and adjust settings.

Ejection charges are driven by two high-current lines with flexible triggering, timing and redundancy options to suit a wide range of rockets.

  • Small form factor: 65 x 25 x 15 mm
    Compact enough for narrow airframes and small avionics bays, with a component-free underside for easy mounting.
  • Pressure sensor with 30 cm (1 foot) resolution
    The barometric sensor resolves altitude changes down to about 30 cm, giving detailed flight profiles.
  • Integrated temperature sensor
    Onboard temperature is logged alongside every flight.
  • Battery input from 3.5 V to 12 V (runs off a single LiPo cell)
    Anything from a single 3.5 V LiPo cell to a 12 V pack will power the board.
  • Low current draw (14 mA)
    At just 14 mA the AIM USB can wait on the pad for a long time, even on a small battery.
  • Maximum MSL value of 100,000 ft
    Records altitudes up to 100,000 ft above mean sea level - plenty of headroom for model rocketry.
  • Two high current (40 amp) ejection lines
    Two independent 40 A output lines fire your ejection charges, each with its own trigger settings.
  • Ejection on apogee, time, ascent altitude, descent altitude and peak velocity
    Trigger deployment on apogee, elapsed time, ascent or descent altitude, or peak velocity - configured per line.
  • Adjustable line firing time and time delays for redundancy
    Firing durations and delays are adjustable, letting you build redundancy between primary and backup charges.
  • Minimum battery voltage alarm settings
    Set a minimum battery voltage and the AIM USB warns you before flight if the battery runs low.
  • Least squares apogee detection
    Apogee is detected with a least-squares fit over the pressure data, making it robust against noise and transients.
  • Over 30 minutes of total flight time
    More than 30 minutes of recording - enough for the whole flight, descent and recovery.
  • Imperial or metric beep-out of altitude after launch
    After landing, the altimeter beeps out your apogee in metric or imperial - no PC needed at the field.
  • Data stored at 0.1 second intervals in non-volatile flash memory
    Samples are written every 0.1 s to non-volatile flash, so your flight data survives power loss.
